Circle of Influence – Gaining Awareness

Have you ever considered how the people around you shape your thoughts, decisions, and success? Your Circle of Influence includes those you spend time with, seek advice from, support, and learn from—such as family, friends, co-workers, and mentors. The more connections you make, the larger your influence grows.

Did you know that you are the sum of the five people you spend the most time with? That’s right! Your relationships impact your mindset, opportunities, and overall success. Take 30 seconds to jot down the five individuals you interact with most often. Are they uplifting, inspiring, and supportive? Or do they drain your energy and hold you back?

Proactive vs. Reactive – Where Do You Focus?

Proactive individuals direct their energy toward their Circle of Influence, focusing on things they can control—like health, work, and personal growth. On the other hand, reactive people spend time worrying about things outside their control, such as the weather, politics, or global events. Shifting your focus to areas where you can make a difference is key to personal and professional growth.

“Gaining awareness of the areas in which we expend our energies is a giant step in becoming proactive.” – Stephen Covey

Building a Positive Circle of Influence

Now that you’re aware of your current circle, ask yourself:

  • Do I need to seek out new, like-minded connections?
  • Am I surrounding myself with people who inspire and challenge me?
  • Is it time to let go of relationships that no longer support my growth?

Change is a natural part of life, but progress requires intention. Letting go of negativity isn’t about being disrespectful—it’s about prioritizing relationships that energize, uplift, and help you thrive.
