So what is a circle of influence?
It is the people you spend your time with, turn to, give assistance to , lead or impart knowledge to. Such as friends, family, co-workers, mentors. The more people you get to know the larger the circle of influence becomes.
It can determine how successful you are in life and your business/mission/career/projects.
Did you know that you are the sum of the FIVE people you spend the most time with, learn from or go to when you need advice or a chat?
Scary isn’t it!
Who do you spend the most time with?
Just take 30 seconds to write it down quickly.
It may be family, clients, employees, friends, mentors……
This has a massive influence on your life perspective and ultimately your decisions. Attitudes, perspectives, meanings, insight and so much more are formed in these interactions.
Proactive people focus their efforts on circle of influence rather than the circle of concern…..interesting!
Reactive people focus their efforts on the circle of concern. That is things they have little or no control over such as the weather, national debt, terrorism.
“Gaining awareness of the areas in which we expend our energies is a giant step in becoming proactive.” Stephen Covey
In your circle of influence, how many of your FIVE people are uplifting, positive and supportive?
How many are negative, unsupportive or holding you back?
The first step, is knowing where you are.
OK, so now you have insight.
What do I need to do to convert this to a really positive circle of influence?
What sort of person do I need to be?
Do I need to let go some of my connections and seek out new and more aligned ones…..that are more my tribe.
Change is inevitable, progress is not.
Is it time to declutter and let go of what is not working for you and replace it with what is?
This is not to be nasty or disrespectful but to spend more time with those that energise and help you to grow and prosper.
Surround yourself with people whom you can confide in, brainstorm with, whose opinions you trust and people you truly believe want you to succeed.
When you create a wholesome and genuine circle of influence. Otherwise known as a wisdom circle you will reach great heights in life and business.
Tips along the way:
1. Accept that not everyone will understand you.
2. Find people who will challenge you, so you grow.
3. Put yourself out there.
4. Exude gratitude and an open mind
5. Create a wisdom circle of your own.
Proactive people focus their efforts on their Circle of Influence. They work on the things they can do something about: health, children, problems at work. Reactive people focus their efforts in the Circle of Concern–things over which they have little or no control: the national debt, terrorism, the weather. Gaining an awareness of the areas in which we expend our energies in is a giant step in becoming proactive. – Stephen Convey
