Man Boobs, Endometriosis, Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), Low Sperm Count
Have we got your attention now?
Hormone or endocrine disruption affects us all… though it’s something so few of us are aware of even exists.
Take a minute to think about all the body care products you use daily. Now that you have them all in your mind, stop and think for a minute about the ingredients in those products.
Do you even know what they are?
Would you still use these products if you knew the truth about their safety?
The average person uses 12 body care products per day. These might include soap, shampoo, foundation, lipstick and aftershave to name a few.
There are some nasty ingredients in body care products which can cause estrogen dominance in the body and that is bad news whether you are a male or female.
They do this by mimicking your natural hormones which results in what’s known as endocrine disruption. Endocrine disruptors cause hormonal imbalance because our bodies are being tricked into releasing more or less of a particular hormone.
Many fertility problems in women are linked to excess estrogen in the body, including early onset of puberty in young girls, endometriosis, fibroids, ovarian cysts, PCOS, irregular cycles and low progesterone levels.
For men it can be hormonal imbalance with testosterone, low sperm count and poor sperm health. You need to look after your swimmers boys!
Women unfortunately are at the greatest risk of chemicals, especially endocrine disruption.
Why? Fat is the reason why.
The female body naturally contains more fat than the male body. It’s just our make up. Fat cells produce estrogen as well as store excess estrogen and toxins. Estrogen is essential for healthy bone formation, healthy gene expression, maintaining healthy cholesterol levels, and is vital for a healthy menstrual cycle but too much of it can wreck havoc.
Estrogen dominance (or excess) can contribute to fertility problems including PCOS and endometriosis. Estrogens are also pro-inflammatory meaning excess estrogens can make inflammatory conditions worse, including autoimmune diseases related to chronic inflammation such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.
The scariest bit??
Studies have shown that during pregnancy and lactation the mother uses up her fat stores and those toxins are directly passed on to her children through her fat rich breast milk. There is no doubt breastfeeding is best but we need to make sure that milk is as clean and free from toxins as possible as they are being directly passed on to our children.
So how do we reduce our exposure to endocrine disruptors?
Ditch the well known supermarket brands for a natural, chemical free and organic alternative, better yet make your own it’s really not that hard.
Remove plastic from your life as much as possible.
Go organic wherever possible.
Get a glass or stainless steel water bottle.
Stop using antibacterial hand soap such as Dettol immediately. Normal soap and water is just fine thanks.
Remove ‘air fresheners’ from your world ASAP. They do not freshen your air, they poison it.
Look after your liver, drink 2L filtered water a day, add a daily green smoothie, ditch the sugar, go alcohol free, get moving…… basically help your body release those toxins from your fat cells.
In the process you may find that excess weight disappears, your PMS symptoms subside, your skin clears up and in general….you just feel better.
Use essential oils dabbed on your hair or clothing instead of spray perfumes.
In short, break free of the marketing ploys that plague us to buy chemical laden beauty and cleaning products. Do something positive for the health of your entire family and seek a better way.
It’s worth it. Our hormones control everything we do. Balance is critical to our health.
If you like it share it.
