4 Steps To Turning New Year’s Resolutions into Action and Results

Sick of creating new year’s resolutions that fizzle and die within the first week?

Well here is a 4 step process that will help you turn your New Year’s Resolutions from hot air to action.

This process will help you gain clarity about where you’ve been, where you are now, and where you want to go so that you can create lasting change in areas of your life.

This creates momentum that will help to revitalise your health, your finances, your relationships, your career….really the sky is the limit!


Take a few minutes to write down a list of personal accomplishments that at one time were merely desires, dreams or goals.

Include big and small achievements that initially seemed difficult or impossible. For example, your job may have originated as a goal or a desire.

What about your current relationship? What was your original desire or goal?

List 10 if you can.

Now circle 3 of these that at one time seemed impossible to achieve.



Now of the 3 circled accomplishments from step 1, write down the steps you took to turn each of them into a reality.

Originally, there was something that prompted you to desire those things greatly. Either you grew weary of how something was in your life (career, relationship, health, finances…) and it drove you to produce a different result, something better, or you experienced something pleasurable and wanted more.

Did you focus on that experience continually, putting a lot of emotional charge into it and thinking about what it would mean for your life?

If so, this would have given you purpose – a powerful ‘why’.

What did you do next?

Did you create a plan?

Or through your focus and desire were events and things magically attracted to you? Doors began to open where they were previously shut?

What were the steps you took?

Write down your steps to see if you can identify a similar process or pattern.

Brainstorm a list of things you would like to achieve, create, give, have or do or experience in the next 20 years.

Record everything you want to have, do, be or create in your lifetime, big or small.

Aim to list 10 desires.

Now write beside each of your desires how long it will take to achieve these entering 1, 3, 5 or 10 years.

Now circle all of your 1-year desires and choose your top 4 one year desires.



Summarise each of your one-year desires from Step 3 here.

Now write why it is an absolute must for you to achieve this desire over the next 12 months.

Now you have gotten clearer about where you would like to go and why. Here are the 5 steps for turning dreams into reality.
1. Get triggered – your brain gets triggered by stimulus (pain or pleasure)
2. Begin to imagine/envision new possibilities
3. You become emotionally engaged
4. You create a clear result and commit to it
5. Take massive action – go crazy with it – keep seeing the vision, focusing and taking action and changing your approach.
